This is a still from a short film where you see the photographer at work. Mind the wall of this ruin on which you see the vague contours of a sort of wall painting. It reminded me of the backdrops you see on old photo’s made in the photostudios some monasteries had in the beginning of the 20th centuryn
In the film this image follows the previous one and indeed it is evident, the ruin used to be a photostudio. Here the same image on Athos Memory: according to this site the location is the photostudio of Skiti Andreou (Andrew) in Karyes. Stratos Kalafatis had the good idea to repeat history and did it all over again as you can see below.

Stratos Kalafatis is a photographer born in Kavala (1966) and based in Thessaloniki, Greece. His photographs have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including 10th Venice Int’l Architectural Biennale, Greek Participation, Backlight 7th Tampere Int’l Triennial in Finland, 10th Edition of PhotoEspana, Museum of Modern Art, Fukushima & Saga, Japan, Bozar Expo, Brussels, Belgium. He has published 3 photography books in cooperation with Agra Publications: Archetypal Images (1999), Omonoia 2000 (2000) & Journal (2004). Since 2002, he organizes photography workshops both in Greece and abroad. His work is represented by Kalfayan Galleries.
